The home side welcomed the visitors with a very strong physicality, demonstrating huge strength in the maul of the line out as well as in the scrum.

Dungarvan made it very hard for Ballincollig to play any clean ball of a ruck or a won scrum. The home side went up to 9 – 0 in the first half as their kicker converted his kicks with confidence.
Often enough it was Ballincollig coming close to the opponent try line, but either a penalty or a handling error turned the ball over to a furiously defending home side.
In the second half Ballincollig was awarded with some kick-able penalties; unfortunately both just trailed wide to either side of the posts.
Late in the second half it was Podge Flynn who showed vision and spotted an opportunity on the wing and fired a skipping pass to Andy Coughlan. He still had some footwork to do, but great strength from his legs and upper body helped him over the whitewash, scoring the defining try in the corner. The following conversion was missed, however. This try secured the losing bonus point for the traveling side.
The team had to anxiously wait for the confirmation from the Munster Branch whether or not they have won the league.
The confirmation came eventually and Ballincollig RFC were promoted into the Munster Junior Division 2 as League Champions for the first time in the history of the club.
