Women’s AIL Division 2S Result – Ballincollig RFC 11 Nenagh Ormond 7
Following their emphatic 25-0 victory away to New Ross last weekend, Ballincollig were determined to continue on winning ways when they faced Nenagh Ormond at home on Sunday. The tie was going to be a defining moment in their season, with Nenagh sitting just above them on the table. The home side got off to a great start, showing just how hungry they were for this game, attacking straight from the kick off. They were rewarded early on with a penalty, which was well executed by Christina Broderick. Putting Ballincollig 3-0 up in the opening minutes. Nenagh responded by pushing the Ballincollig defence and they were penalised deep inside their own half. With the home side now defending on their line, Nenagh ran the ball and touched down for a try, which was subsequently converted. Ballincollig went on the attack and Christina was on the mark again, when she accurately kicked another penalty, sending the home side into the break trailing by just one point on a score line of 6-7.
This was Ballincollig’s game to lose and they started the second half with intent. The scrum was much improved, having struggled at times in the first half. Aoife Deasy made a break inside her own half and securing a pass to Grace McNamara who was supporting on her left shoulder, sent the No.10 on a superb run, scoring in the left corner. Ballincollig failed to convert and they held onto a four point lead heading into the final stages of the game. The visitors mounted an attack and put Ballincollig under pressure, asking questions of their defence in the closing moments of the game. But they kept calm, defended with resilience and refused to let Nenagh take anything from this game. They held on under the attack to claim a second and well deserved win. They now occupy fourth place on the table just a point behind Galbally and Nenagh Ormond, setting up an exciting clash at home against table toppers, Portlaoise RFC on November 11th.
Well done Ladies!
