MATCH REPORTS

Under 16s

This was our first game of the season. You could easily tell, Ballincollig were vey gittery in the first quarter, with a lot of handling errors, knock ons and missed tackles.  We let the opposition in for some easy scores which helped them settle in early in the game.In the second quarter we got our act together winning good line out ball, competing well at the breakdown it helped us get into their 22 and put them under pressure which resulted in a penalty which we converted. We had our spirits up and kept them under real pressure all over the pitch, but we couldn’t get in for a try before half time.

The second half kicked off and we were doing the right things but couldn’t put points on the board. Ballincollig turned over a lot of possession but Con couldn’t take advantage of it. Just before the third quarter with some quick forward play and swift movement through the backs we got over for a try but didn’t convert it. For the remainder of the game it ebbed and flowed between both ends of the pitch, both teams doing their utmost to drive the other team up the pitch. Players were at full tilt and made it very hard to make ground. A loose ball let Cork Con in for a late try and seal victory. A great start for us and a positive one. Roll on next Sunday when we take on Old Christians.

Well done lads, great performance but a lot of work still to be done.

Final score Ballincollig 8 Cork Con 24.
