Weekend 9th February 2013 Match Reports
Under 7s
The Ballincollig U7’s turned up to Sundays Well on a sunny Saturday morning to play their first match of the season. Ballincollig played two matches against Sundays Well. Ballincollig started off brilliantly with a darting run but missed out on a try by placing the ball before the try line. Ballincollig were brilliant in their defence and were all up to tag the oncoming opponents quickly. A try from Ballincollig and a try from Sundays Well left the teams level at full time. Ballincollig went into the second game rearing to go. From the start Ballincollig were up tagging the opponents to defend their try line. Some brilliant running from Sundays Well saw them break through the Ballincollig line and score a try. Ballincollig soon scored a try of their own at the other end of the pitch which again left the sides tied at full time. The U7’s impressed with their running with the ball and their tagging when they were without the ball. They were two very close games Ballincollig played and it showed how well they have been working at training in the last few weeks. Well done to all the boys.
Under 8s
First up for the U8’s in their blitz was Sunday’s Well which was tag rugby only. The lads adjusted to the last minute rule change well in a game that saw some great passes and runs. Next up was Youghal in which the tackle was allowed. Brian Dore produced some great tackles and Pete Kelly and Stephen Naughton made superb runs.
Under 9s
Travelled to Sundays Well last Saturday played 2 games won one lost one. Tries were scored by David Fahey, Jamie Dineen, and Rory Kiely Nathan. Others to play very well were Ronan Power Kieran Twomey, Sean Mischke Diarmuid Ward and Robert Dennehy. After the game we were treated to sandwiches and drinks by Sundays Well RFC. Our thanks to our hosts for the day.
Under 10s
Ballincollig Under 10’s travelled to Old Christians on Saturday 9th Feb for a blitz. Three matches were played in all. First against Old Christians which Ballincollig won 6-3, with an outstanding display of counter-rucking and swift passing. Resolute defending and great teamwork were the order of the day. The second game was against another Old Christians team which was a very hard fought, close encounter. There were some excellent defending and tackling skills on show from both sides, making scoring difficult. There was little between both sides throughout the game and it finished up 1-1. A fair reflection of the closeness of the game. In the third game Ballincollig came up against local rivals Muskerry R.F.C. and in with a great display of skills, Ballincollig went into a 3-0 lead before half time. The second half started off with a Muskerry score, but two more tries from Ballincollig rounded off an outstanding display. 5-1 was how it finished. So finishing up a blitz with a score of 2 wins and 1 draw, and scoring 12 tries, meant a very good days rugby was had by all. Congratulations to one & all involved
Under 12s
The Ballincollig lads travelled with 2 squads to Rathcooney on Saturday to play the home side old Christians, who also had 2 squads. Dolphin and Muskerry also arrived with one squad each. A dry and bright morning, for a change made for a good mornings rugby for all involved. Both of the Ballincollig squads gave a good account of themselves in all games. Lack of recent game time and a small bit of rustiness was costly at times for our boys on the scoreboard. On the plus side the intensity in the tackle and our eagerness get on the ball was great to see. Some fine team work enabled the lads to cross for tries in all of the games. If the weather stays on our side, our lads will be delighted to be involved in competitive games in the next few weeks.
Under 13s
A thrilling second half comeback by Ballincollig was not enough to overcome Muskerrys first half dominance. The Ballincollig forwards enjoyed superiority in the scrums and lineouts with good performances by Cameron Moorcroft and the versatile Mark O Connor. Padraig Sweeney at scrum half and Liam Kilgrew on the wing combined well with newcomers John O Connell and Connor O Buachalla who both did very well in their first ever rugby match.
