Match Report – Munster Junior League Division 3 – Scariff RFC vs. Ballincollig RFC
Hard fought win in far far away…
Ballincollig RFC had to travel to their furthest opponents, Scariff RFC, to continue their
Munster Jubior League campaign.
Ballincollig started very strong and put the also strong home team under presure in every
aspect of the game.
The opening 10 minutes was entirely played in Scariff’s own 22.
A desperate kick down field from the home team was gathered by Kevin Ryan at about the
halfway line. With ball in hand and some pace he set up a lovely counter dragged in 2 of the
remaining defenders who were left on the far side, only to offload at the right moment.
The ball went quickly and accurately through the hands and left the home team outnumbered
wide, with Podge Flynn showing his pace too to score an excellent, but unconverted, try.
The weather conditions didn’t allow any team to play their style really and was therefore
interrupted with plenty of handling errors from both teams. Penalties were given away at
dangerous spots of both teams, but remained fruitless for both either.
The hal time score was left 0 -5 in favour of the visitors.
The second half was stopped plenty of times due to injuries on both sides.
Only late in second half Ballincollig was presented with another kickable penalty and Kevin Ryan stepped up to convert it.
10 minutes later the final whistle blew, leaving the final score:
Scariff RFC 0 – Ballincollig RFC 8
Ballincollig will next play Muskerry RFC at Tanner Park in the rescheduled round 4 encounter on Saturday the 9th of February, Kick Off 02.30PM.
Any support is very welcome.
