Women’s Munster Cup Result – Ballincollig RFC 20 Nenagh Ormond RFC 10

Ballincollig extended their lead at the top of Group A following their 20-10 victory over Nenagh Ormond on Sunday. Ballincollig claimed a narrow 11-7 win over their league rivals earlier in the season and were under no illusion as to how tough this encounter would be.

Ballincollig got off to a good start and Grace McNamara was unlucky when the ball she was chasing crossed the dead ball line in the opening five minutes.  Nenagh Ormond launched an attack and when Ballincollig were outnumbered on the wing, the visitors took advantage with Caroline Cahalan running in the first try of the afternoon.  The convserion fell just short.  Ballincollig headed into the break trailing 5-0.

The home side opened the half with intent and piled the pressure on the visitors.  With Nenagh defending on their try line when ‘Collig were awarded a penalty, they were unable to keep them out as Grace McNamara drove over the line for her first of the day.  The sides were now level five a piece after the conversion was missed.

The second half saw some great phases of play as the home side dominated possession. Ballincollig were reduced to fourteen following a yellow card but remained in control and took the lead after Grace scored her second try.  Breda Leonard added the extras. A well kicked penalty from Breda and the home side were leading 15-5 heading into the closing moments of the game. Nenagh retaliated with a try to reduce the gap to 15-10 but a try from Breda Leonard before the final whistle wrapped up another crucial victory for Ballincollig.

The win makes it three from three in the Women’s Munster Cup campaign with the final group game against Division 1 Champions U.L. Bohemian this Sunday in Annacotty.
