Weekend 8th December 2012 Match Reports
Under 8s
The lads displayed more excellent tackles and forward momentum on Saturday. Their placing of the ball and support in attack was very impressive. There were standout performances from Thomas, Sean, Ben, Dara and Brian and the lads ran in 6 tries to to tie the sides level at full time.
Under 10s
Ballincollig 9 Skibbereen 5
Skibbereen came to Tanner Park, on 8th of December. Both sides were evenly matched early on, but slowly Ballincollig started to gain control of proceedings by excellent tackling, rucking and counter rucking. Ballincollig showed the greater desire, and soon took the lead, Skibbereen however soon equalised. Directly from the tip off, Ballincollig scored again. Each side scored twice more before half time. Second half started brightly with Ballincollig scoring twice in quick succession. Skibbereen replied with a score but Ballincollig went over again. Skibbereen were next to score, cutting the deficit to two.
Skibbereen tried valiantly, but a superb defensive display from Ballincollig prevented Skibbereen from scoring again, and the game was finished off in style with two breakaway tries from Ballincollig.
Well Done lads, another fantastic victory
Under 11s
The under 11s came up against a big strong Skibereen side who travelled in strength with an unbeaten season behind them. Ballincollig to their credit and despite going behind early on kept their wits about them this week and these young boars produced a strong finish by scoring two late tries to draw the fixture at six tries each. Well done lads and we look forward to big improvements in our tackling which will see these tight matches result in victories
Under 12s
Despite having a full squad available on the day Ballincollig were beaten by a strong physical Skibbereen side. Our inability to take man and ball proved costly as the Skibbereen lads ran in tries to kill off the game by half time. Our trip to Skibbereen in March will have to be an opportunity to rectify the score line. Well done lads
Under 13s
The lead changed hands 4 times in a thrilling encounter between our U-13s and a big physical Fermoy side. Dominance in the scrums, great team spirit and great tackling by Sam Kiely and David O Driscoll and big performances by all the Ballincollig players including, Cathal Quirke, Mikey Fitton and Reece O Donohue, tries by Zak Forde and Jack Casey converted by Za) were not enough to deny Fermoy victory in the last minutes of the game. Well done lads.
Under 15s
Ballincollig 25 v Muskerry 5
Ballincollig under 15s had a very convincing away win against Muskerry yesterday. After a sluggish start Ballincollig soon showed their superiority in both the forwards and the backs. Ballincollig scored 5 well taken tries scored by both forwards and backs. Again this week Ballincollig did well in the scrums and line outs and their rucking and mauling had much improved from last weeks performance. There was some great defence and attacking play by the backs with yards gained on every attack. This was the last league game before the new year and ends a successful half of the season .Next week we have a friendly match against Dolphin which gives the fringe players a chance to show their skills and challenge for places in the new year.
