Match Report – Munster Junior League Division 3 – Bantry Bay -Dunmanway vs. Ballincollig RFC

This was a very important game for Ballincollig as a win would keep them on track for promotion to Division 2.

We started very well and dominated most phases in the first half.
However against a bigger and heavier pack Ballincollig found it hard to get in to a rhythm.
After 20 mins we had a penalty on the 30mtr line which was converted by Kevin Ryan.
Ballincollig were now getting on top in the set pieces and with faster ball getting out to the backs we were able to create openings. After a Brian Mahony break from his 22 mtr line and a quick pass to Dave Power who sprinted some 50 mtrs to score a try under the posts. This was converted by Kevin Ryan.

Half time score we lead by 10pts to nil.

Bantry /Dunmanway started the 2nd half at pace and after a couple of forward drives they scored a try in the corner to leave the score 10pts to 5 pts for Ballincollig.

Ballincollig again upped their pace and scored another 3 trys by Kevin Ryan, Ian O’Malley and Glen Murphy.

Kevin Ryan created a gap for himself with a beautiful dummy pass, while Podge Flynn drew a defender perfectly to allow Kevin Ryan to score the try. Where as Ian O’Malley and Glen Murphy used their strength to score from close range.

This gave Ballincollig a very important bonus point.

Dave Power, Glen Murphy, Ian O’Malley, Denis Casey and Brian Murphy had a. good game.
