Women’s AIL Division 2 Result – Fermoy 8 Ballincollig 5

Ballincollig Women suffered their second defeat of the season, away to league newcomers Fermoy on Sunday.  The visitors started well, spending the opening stage of the game camped inside the Fermoy twenty-two.  However, the home side began to settle and on the twentieth minute were awarded a penalty.  With Ballincollig defending on their try line, Fermoy took a quick penalty to touch down over the line.  A resilient Ballincollig defence withstood pressure from the North Cork side for the remainder of the half.

Ballincollig started the second half with great intent and were rewarded when Breda Leonard drove over the line to level the sides, only minutes into the half.  Unfortunately, they failed to build on this momentum and a penalty for Fermoy, directly in front of the posts in the closing stages of the game, edged the home side in front.  A lead they held at the final whistle.

The losing bonus point means Ballincollig remain top of Division 2 heading into a two week break.  Their next fixture is at home to Shannon on Sunday the 10th of November, kick-off 1pm.  All support is welcome.
